1. Summary

The Belgian Pointer is a browser extension that helps you identify genuinely Belgian vendors on supported webshops.

We do not collect any personal data. The extension has no user accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no cookies and no fingerprinting. Nothing about you or your browsing is stored on our servers.

2. Who we are

This extension is published by the operator of the Belgian Pointer service. For any question about this policy or about privacy, contact us at: info@becom.digital.

3. What the extension does

4. Data we do not collect

We do not collect, store, sell or share:

There is no user profile, and no data is ever sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Technical requests to our server

To be able to work at all, the extension makes a small number of technical requests:

  1. List of supported webshops — downloaded once and cached locally. Contains no data about you.
  2. Vendor lookup — when you are on a supported webshop, the extension asks our server for the list of known vendors for that shop's domain only (for example bol.com). No URL, no product page, no search term, no personal identifier is sent. On all other websites, no request is made.
  3. Public seller information — when a seller displayed on a supported webshop is not yet in our database, the extension may send the publicly visible business details of that seller (company/shop name and business address as shown on the shop page) so our database can be completed. This concerns commercial information about a business, not information about you.

As with any request over the internet, our server receives the connection's technical metadata (such as IP address) at the moment of the request. We do not use it to identify you, we do not link it to any profile, and it is not retained for analytics purposes.

6. Local storage on your device

The extension uses the browser's local extension storage (storage permission) exclusively for:

This data stays on your device. It is never uploaded to us. Removing the extension deletes it.

7. Permissions and why they are needed

PermissionWhy
storageLocal caching of the vendor lists and the welcome-message flag.
Access to websites (*://*/*)Needed so the pointer can be displayed on supported shops. The extension only becomes active on shops present in the supported-shops list; on other sites it stays idle and sends nothing.

8. Third parties

The extension uses the open-source animation library GSAP, bundled inside the extension. No third-party service, analytics provider or advertising network receives any data.

9. Children

The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly process any data about them.

10. Your rights

Since we do not process personal data, there is no personal data to access, correct or delete. If you nevertheless believe we hold data about you, contact us at info@becom.digital and we will respond in accordance with the GDPR. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (www.dataprotectionauthority.be).

11. Changes to this policy

Any change to this policy will be published on this page with an updated date. Substantial changes will be communicated through the extension or the store listing.
